How to Make a Cheap Netbook

This all started when my 8 year old son wanted Streamyx laptop.

You will need:

1 working Dell Latitude CPi with a Pentium II and at least 128 MB RAM
1 Linux DSL LiveCD
1 Cisco 350 Aironet Wireless PC Card
1 USB thumb drive at least 256 MB

My laptop came with a 13-inch screen, 128 MB memory, CD-ROM, hard drive caddy, AC adaptor and a working battery.

The laptop I got did not come with a hard drive.

When buying a used laptop online, make sure to ask if it will boot to the BIOS. Knowing that it will boot to the BIOS is a good indication that the laptop is running properly.

Also, make sure that the BIOS are not locked with a password.

Linux DSL LiveCD is designed to boot from the CD-ROM and loads itself into RAM memory.

For a wireless Internet connection you will need a Wi-Fi PC Card.

Most laptops have a slot Streamyx the side of the machine for PC cards.

The USB thumb drive will be used for storing setup information.

The USB thumb drive is not required, but it will speed up the loading process.

If you have a working hard drive for your laptop, you can install Linux DSL on the hard drive.

Do not think of this as a laptop that can do everything.

Think of it as laptop that will get you connected to the Internet.

This laptop is capable of running Windows XP. You will need a hard drive with at least 2 GB.

When it comes to memory, more is always better.

Wouldn't it be great to be able to just toss your various gadgets into a adsl streamyx little bed of grass and have them instantly recharge themselves through the magic of some WildCharger-style cordless charging technology? Of course it would. Unfortunately, this new so-called Grass Charging Valet available from Taylor Gifts won't let you do any of that. It will, however, let you conceal your current entanglement of chargers beneath a tasteful patch of 100% faux grass, and set you back a mere $30. Hit up the link below to get your streamyx web in if you're feeling Streamyx inclined, and look for it to start shipping next week.
